How does RockTape reduce pain?

Kinesiology Tape still mystifies me, but I know it works.  Here is an excerpt from a RockTape email that describes it perfectly ...

"RockTape’s elastic properties provide mechanical traction, creating an alternate stimulus via mechanoreceptors within the skin and fascia, to give a less threatening stimulus to the brain from the taped area."

It has long been known that the brain impacts our perception of pain and can subconsciously restrict movement in an effort to protect us.  Taping can help comfort the overactive brain response.
